The transformation of this Outremont residence was designed for a family of four. Returning to their old home after spending seven years in the Middle East, they entrusted L’Abri with the task of redesigning it. The family sought to modernize the space and open up the layout while harmonizing the contemporary project with the home's historic character.

The demolition of two load-bearing walls and the enlargement of the garden-facing openings served as the starting point for the new layout. This move freed up the floor plan and created a new, continuous perspective through the space: once dark and closed off, the ground floor living areas now open up in succession, from the front living room all the way to the backyard. The south-facing orientation of the large sliding door leading to the terrace floods the entire floor with natural light.
