The Nidazo Project is, first and foremost, a project of the heart. Its primary mission is to create a unique living environment that encourages resource sharing, social inclusion, and the maximum preservation of the natural surroundings that define its beauty. The project aims to design a responsible residential development that offers healthy homes at fair prices, integrating harmoniously with Frelighsburg’s heritage while contributing to the vitality of the village.

Built on ongoing collaboration with residents and professionals, the living environment is based on co-housing principles. The site is planned and designed to foster interactions and community life through gardens, pedestrian avenues, and play areas. Private, fully equipped homes are developed collaboratively in consultation with an initial group of residents. Resources are shared, including a large community kitchen, a workshop, tools, a greenhouse, a vegetable garden, and a pond.

The conceptual plan reflects the intent to preserve the wetlands and waterways on the site while defining a mix of uses: commercial and community use along the main road; residential use in the forest on generously sized lots; denser single-family and duplex residential use in the already-cleared area near the village core; and recreational-tourism use, featuring small seasonal homes and a service building.

The project’s lot organization is based on a cellular model. This organic structure revolves around a micro-community of a few housing units. On a larger scale, these units form a series of residential clusters that shape the project’s territory while remaining permeable.

The co-housing nucleus is envisioned as an open and dynamic system composed of semi-private cells arranged around a shared core. It allows private property ownership for cohabitants while fostering a shared organization that promotes co-living. Through its permeability, it creates a unique relationship between private and public spaces, structuring the territory without dividing it.
