La Pointe is a ready-to-camp micro-shelter designed for the Parc régional du Poisson Blanc, located north of Ottawa. With its triangular geometry, the shelter offers a reinterpretation of the legendary A-frame, popularized in North America in the 1950s. It was important for the designers to create a simple, almost iconic structure that would provide functional spaces oriented towards nature. The small off-grid building, powered by a solar panel and able to accommodate two to four people, was built on-site in just a few weeks by the L’Abri construction team.

A small trail winding through the forest leads to the micro-shelter, located about a ten-minute walk from the welcome pavilion. Access to the building is via the covered terrace. The interior spaces are minimalist and bathed in natural light. A full kitchenette and a table that transforms into an additional bed occupy the first level. The focal point of the shelter is the large bay window, offering an uninterrupted view of the forest and the reservoir below. The hammock chair, suspended from the ceiling, allows guests to enjoy the landscape and the warmth of the fireplace. An inclined ladder leads to the bed, a suspended feature in the cathedral ceiling supported by steel rods. Pine plywood panels cover all the interior walls, while the hemlock structure of the roof has been left exposed.

Resting on the main volume, the covered terrace with its translucent polycarbonate roof is the perfect place to continue enjoying the outdoors when the weather is less favorable.

Timeless, the steel batten cladding of the long roof is a nod to rural buildings from another era. The exterior cladding, made of natural cedar boards and battens, will develop a silvery hue over the years.
